Digvijay Demands Judicial Probe On Illegal Mining In Madhya Pradesh

Bhopal, Mar 28: Senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh today demanded that a judicial commission be set up to probe into alleged illegal mining in Madhya Pradesh during his 10-year tenure as Chief Minister and present incumbent Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

In a frontal attack on Mr Chouhan, Mr Singh alleged that illegal mining was going on across the state and the Chief Minister's residence was being used to abet it. IPS officer Narendra Kumar became a victim of the mining mafia in Morena and the police force in entire state remained demoralised due to frequent incidents of attack on them by BJP supporters, he told reporters at the Vidhan Sabha premises.
The Congress General Secretary charged that BJP leaders were patronising both Hindu and Muslim fundamentalist elements. In this context, he alleged that Assembly Speaker Ishwardas Rohani gave 'political and personal protection' to Abdul Razzak, who was allegedly involved in illegal mining in Jabalpur.
Mr Singh said he had sent a letter to Union Home Minister P Chidambaram demanding an inquiry by the National Investigation Agency into the 'anti-national and terrorist activities' of Razzak as the local police could not take impartial action due to his political links.
Countering state BJP chief Prabhat Jha's allegation that leader of the opposition Ajay Singh had encroached upon land near his house in Churhat, the former Chief Minister challenged him to get remove the encroachment on government land allegedly made by Mr Chouhan and his wife in Vidisha.
He also alleged that a warehouse had been got constructed by Mr Chouhan in Vidisha, very close to a protected monument.
Surprisingly, Mr Chouhan's name did not figure among those who were issued notices for taking up construction within 100 metre area of the monument protected by Archaeological Survey of India.
Alleging that auction of land in Rewa for constructing a new Collectorate building under the redensification plan was aimed at granting undue benefit to a builder, Mr Singh urged the Chief Minister to stop the auction and take penal action against those found guilty. (UNI)
